Shinbo is like every 19 year old guy with lot's of humor and can get really passionate about things important to him.
His best friend is Hideki, one of the main characters of Chobits. They both live in the same apartment complex and get to spend lots of time together. Shinbo becomes Hideki's main source for help and sticks with him through all the stupid things he does. The only time he really got mad was when Chii broke Sumomo.
But he gives Hideki a big shock when on one night very late, Hideki finds Shinbo kissing Shimizu sensei.
It all started when Hideki was at his house one night and Shimizu sensei comes over and asks Hideki if she can spend the night at his house. Hideki lets her stay and the next day at cram school Shinbo seems very tired. When Hideki tells Shinbo what happened he gets really angry and when cram school is over he stays behind. A few days later he sees Shinbo and Shimizu in an ally kissing.
The next time Hideki hears from Shinbo he tells Hideki that he has run off with Shimizu and they are at a hot springs in the mountains. Hideki asks why and Shinbo tells him the story of how Shimizu’s husband ignored her and Shinbo ended up falling in love with her. The night she spent at Hideki’s was the night she was supposed to move in with Shinbo. They don’t end up returning until Shimizu agrees to remarry to Shinbo. Nothing really changes when they get back except that they move in together, but they make a really sweet and loving couple.
Shinbo’s relationship with Sumomo is different then all the other relationships of the characters in Chobits. It seems that he's the only one that knows that Sumomo is a computer and not a replacement for a companion.
Still, he makes her do all kinds of silly things as part of her program and takes good care of her.
