Fujimi Block No. 2 Symphony Orchestra, written by Akizuki Koh, is the story of an amateur orchestra, its concertmaster and its conductor. Tonoin Kei, a musical genius who has studied extensively in the area of conducting, falls in love at first sight (or sound, as it were) with a music teacher, Morimura Yuki. Yuki happens to act as the concertmaster for a small amateur orchestra that meets three times a week at the Fujimi Civic Center. Kei joins Fujimi as conductor in order to get closer to Yuki. Yuki, on the other hand, is in love with Kawashima Natsuko, a female flutist in the orchestra, so when Kawashima falls for Kei, Kei finds that Yuki wants to make war, not love.
Fujimi Orchestra is, at first, primarily about Tonoin and Morimura's romance, but the story follows the lives of Kei and Yuki, and their musical careers. Fujimi Orchestra has become quite successful, attracting an audience beyond the average fanbase for the boy's love genre. As Aestheticism.net puts it, "The simple yet realistic and touching portrayal of the lives of musicians has captured the attention of students of music and musicians alike all over Japan."
There are 34 books to the series as of September 2006. The novels are put out by Kodokawa's Ruby Bunko, a branch of the Kodokawa publishing company which specializes in Boy's Love titles.
The first 19 novels and 3 additional character books were illustrated by Nishi Keiko, while all those that have been released since then have been illustrated by Sey Goto.
The manga, released for Fujimi Orchestra's 10th year anniversary, was published in Asuka Comics CL-DX and illustrated by Sei Goto. The stories illustrated are the first and fourth, Cold Front Conductor and Do You Like The Concert?.
Run time: 60 minutes
U.S. Licensed: No
The OVA featured the first story (entitled 'Cold Front Conductor' in the novel), in which Kei and Yuuki meet and events are set into motion. The OVA is actually from Morimura's perspective (as are the novels and the majority of the drama CDs), and is set after things have begun, so Yuuki explains the situation in retrospect.
